Licensed Therapy in Florida and New Jersey
What if I told you, you didn’t have to re-live your trauma, to heal from it?
Remembering is not recovering. The only thing worse than living through a traumatic event is the aftereffects that impact the present day. These effects may include mood instability, flashbacks, depression, irritability, anxiety, hyper-vigilance, isolation, destructive behaviors, and more. Past trauma can change our worldview in the present, contributing to an ongoing sense of danger, fear, hopelessness, and shame. That's why, as a therapist, Jaclyn uses an array of here-and-now techniques to assist clients in re-establishing a sense of safety.
Why EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing Therapy) is a leading treatment for Trauma/PTSD, anxiety, phobias, & an array of other mental health disorders. EMDR is based on the notion that when something overwhelming happens, our memory of that event becomes “stuck” in a part of our brain that causes present-day dysfunction. EMDR systematically re-processes the “stuck” experience, so individuals are no longer disturbed by the triggering event. Clients have a sense of “that was then, and this is now” and often see an elimination or reduction of presenting symptoms.
What if I don’t feel “ready” to begin processing my trauma?
That is not a problem. Jaclyn’s job as your trauma-informed therapist is to create a safe, understanding, and validating environment to assist with engaging in EMDR’s 8-phase treatment. Slow and steady wins the trauma race.
EMDR is a collaborative process where the client’s needs and desires are heard, listened to, and responded to throughout treatment. No pressure, just healing.
What if I don’t want to re-live my trauma by talking about it?
You’re in luck. EMDR can be what is referred to as a “blind to therapist” therapeutic modality, meaning the therapist does not need to know the ins and outs of the traumatic event. As long as the client can tap into the past negative experience, EMDR can heal the “stuck” memory with as little intrusion as possible. Preparation work will assist in increasing the client’s ability to tolerate distress associated with trauma processing.
As an EMDR-certified therapist, Jaclyn strives to create a safe, empathetic, and validating environment for clients to process their trauma, so they can heal and become the best version of themselves.
