EMDR & Therapy Frequently Asked Questions.

Q:What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Re-processing (EMDR) is a bottom-up approach to therapy that focuses on helping clients adequately process traumatic memories and negative experiences that are currently causing distress in the present. This is done through the use of bilateral-stimulation (eye movements/variations of back and forth tapping), allowing the client to effectively process distress while keeping one foot in the present moment. Re-processing is conducted in a therapeutic environment with the help of the therapist, who spends multiple sessions prior assisting the client in preparation and stabilization. Following re-processing, clients have a newfound sense of safety and symptoms that had been causing distress are reduced or eliminated.

Q: What can EMDR treat?

EMDR treatment was originally created to assist clients suffering from traumatic disturbances, however, recent/ongoing research indicates that EMDR is an appropriate treatment modality for an array of different issues, including, but not limited to; PTSD, complex PTSD, depression, anxiety, phobias, OCD, addiction, eating disorders, self-esteem issues, and panic disorders.

Q: Outside of EMDR, what other therapeutic approaches does Jaclyn practice?

All psychotherapy is conducted through a trauma-informed, attachment-based lens. Jaclyn acknowledges that the most important aspect of the healing process is feeling understood, connected, and validated within the therapeutic relationship. Jaclyn creates a empathetic and nonjudgmental environment to help all clients feel understood and met with unconditional positive regard. Jaclyn utilizes an array of different techniques and modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, solution-focused techniques, and mindfulness-based techniques.

Q: When is payment due?

Payment is due at the beginning of each session. For your convenience, you will be able to set up a credit card on file for the duration of treatment to initiate Auto Pay.

Q: What if I cannot afford the self-pay rate? Will my insurance cover therapy?

At this time, Jaclyn is not a preferred provider on any insurance panel. However, if a client’s insurance policy reimburses for out-of-network providers, as many do, then a portion of the self-pay fee may be reimbursed. Jaclyn can provide clients with a Superbill for Out Of Network (OON) reimbursement that may be submitted to insurance by the client for reimbursement. Jaclyn cannot guarantee that payment will be reimbursed.

Q: How do I know if I have Out Of Network Benefits?

Call your insurance company to inquire about OON benefits. If you do have OON benefits, the following questions are recommended to discuss directly with your insurance representative:

1.     What is my deductible and does it have to be met in order to receive reimbursement?

2.     Is preauthorization required to receive services?

3.     What is the reimbursement rate? (If they ask for codes, you can give them 90791 for the initial assessment and 90837 for additional sessions)

Q: What is the attendance & cancellation policy?

In order to get the most out of therapy, please ensure that you are ready to begin Telehealth at the time of your scheduled appointment.

Cancellation Policy: Please remember to cancel your appointment at least 24 hours in advance to avoid being charged the full fee for session. This allows Jaclyn time to schedule another client or make arrangements as necessary. If you do not cancel within the allotted time frame or do not show up for your appointment, you will be charged your full session fee. Adjustments will be made for emergency situations.
